Yo. Ok, Victoria and I have officially made it to the South Island. We're in beautiful Picton, which you can find on the north part of the South island, due west from Wellington if you have a map handy. Wellington was cool, albeit rainy as hell. We braved the weather yesterday and went to the zoo. It was awesome, but they don't call it "Wundy" Wellington (i=u down here, as in "Fush and Chups") for nothing. Wellington is a neat, compact town of about 180,000 or so with steep hills and a beautiful harbor... if you can see it through the sheets of rain. The museum here is one of the best I've seen, with some pretty cool artwork and lots of Maori cultural stuff. Though there was one weird bit of artwork that consisted of a cardboard box that spoke poetry. Another was a video of mosh pitting used soda bottles that could be witnessed 24-7 for the public's benefit I guess. Call me a philistine.
The Interisland ferry is pretty cool. The winds in the Cook straight blow like a bald tire on August blacktop, but you get some pretty cool views on the observation deck. Talked to some cool folks from all over and even got an invite from some south Islanders to stay at their pad. This country never ceases to amaze me with their generosity.
I loved hanging out in the capital city, but I can't wait to do some trampin' and climbing. The trip can only get better from here! Cheers people, and stay away from Tahoe for a little while ok? Sheesh.
